Senior Marine Instructor, Major Steven M. Sessis, USMC (Ret)




Major Steven M. Sessis, a native of Ironton, Ohio, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation from the Ohio State University in June 1977.

His tours with the Fleet Marine Forces include service with the: 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa Japan as an operations officer, tank platoon commander and company executive officer in the 1st Tracked Vehicle Battalion; 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California as an operations officer, 1st Tank Battalion, Commanding Officer, Company D, 1st Tank Battalion and Assistant Division Inspector; Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms, California as the Executive Officer, 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division.

Major Sessis' non FMF tours of duty include service as: Officer Selection Officer, Recruiting Station Los Angeles, California; Platoon Commander, Officer Candidate School, Marine Corps Development and Education Command, Quantico Virginia; Commanding Officer, Marine Detachment, USS Long Beach (CGN-9); Commanding Officer, MCSF Training Company, Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia; Tactics Instructor and Deputy Director for Curriculum Development Amphibious Warfare School, Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Quantico, Virginia.

Major Sessis retired from active duty in July 1997. He has been the Senior Military Instructor at Daniel Boone High School's Marine Corps Junior ROTC since May 1997.

Major Sessis holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education and is a graduate of the Basic School, US Army Armor Officer Course, Amphibious Warfare School, Command and Staff College, US Army Airborne School, US Army Pre-Command Course, US Navy Nuclear Weapons Security Officer Course, US Navy Intelligence Course, and the Instructional Management Course.

A veteran of Operations Nimble Archer, Valiant Usher, and Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Major Sessis' personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars.

Major Sessis is married to the former Peggy Foersch of Westminster, California. They have three daughters; Paula, Andrea and Erika.
